Angela Braito

« Kotan Kigné »

Composer, writer, and sound artist, Angela Braito has been crafting a singular body of work that blends personal storytelling, cultural heritage, and immersive formats. After expanding into various literary and musical forms, and visual novels, she now opens a new creative cycle with Kotan Kigné — an acoustic and narrative project that bridges West Africa and the Mediterranean.

It all begins with an encounter. That of Cheikhna Touré, nephew of the legendary band Touré Kunda, who entrusts Angela with a set of unpublished compositions, written more than two decades ago. In these raw, vibrant melodies, Angela hears a familiar echo — of shared shores, inherited voices, and rhythms that oscillate between dance and meditation. She decides to breathe new life into these dormant pieces, weaving them with her own artistic language.

Kotan Kigné — meaning “the moment has come” in Soninké — becomes a space of soft fusion, where lines blur rather than clash. The guitar becomes a grounding presence, the percussion flows with organic pulse, and the voices — in French, Soninké, Wolof, and Bambara — intertwine into a shared, soulful chant.

Angela leads the project’s artistic direction, arrangements, vocals, and overall design. It’s a gesture of both humility and power, rooted in listening, dialogue, and slowness. The album, set for release in Spring 2025, will be accompanied by an immersive concert, conceived as a living ritual — a sensory space where acoustic textures take shape through light, gesture, scenography, and spatial sound.

Rooted in resonance, Kotan Kigné is a project of passage. A threshold music. A vibrant tribute to what connects distant worlds.
